Assessing Emerging Technologies
One of the goals of the Horizon Project VCOP is to determine how to evaluate the technologies that we bring into our classrooms and institutions. All too often a new technology appears on a campus simply because it is 'cool'. The task of evaluating, and ultimately, assessing a technology for its fit in Higher Education can often be delayed or even neglected.
In the September 2004 issue of Educause Quarterly, Daved Staley lists 10 evaluative questions to ask when evaluating the fit of technology in higher education. One good question listed in the document: "Why is this technology here?"
