While on the set of Manoel de Oliveira's Journey to the Beginning of the World, Marcello Mastroianni's 171st and final film, Mastroianni and filmmaker Anna Maria Tato, his companion of the last 22 years, decided to make a documentary about Mastroianni's life. They filmed over six hours of reminiscences and edited them down to this charming, personal look at one of world cinema's favourite actors... Displaying his customary wit, generosity, modesty and irony, Mastroianni tells us of his childhood, the birth of his daughter, his first night of love and his memories of Chaplin, Garbo and Gary Cooper, amongst many other things. While he is far from forthcoming on the women in his life, he is generous in talking about the most important collaboration of his career: his work with Federico Fellini... All in all, a wonderful look back at one of cinema's greats.
