Will It Snow for Christmas?

*Premiere*

An Award-Winning Debut from France's Sandrine Veysset!

The first thing to mention is that this wonderful debut feature from Sandrine Veysset has nothing to do with Christmas, so don't let the title put you off... "A richly textures dramatic tribute to a young, single mother who's bringing up seven children in extremely harsh circumstances -- and bringing them up happy. Veysset, who is not yet 30, has dedicated the film to her own mother... The setting is a farm in the south of France. Mother and children are constantly at work, keeping their damp, drafty house intact and working like slaves for their father, who owns the farm they live on. He, meanwhile, lives in a fine house some miles away with his wife and 'legitimate' offspring... Veysset, who describes her film as an 'homage to maternal art,' is attentive to the imaginative ways in which the mother enables these children to withstand their father's cruelty and to flourish harmoniously together... The film is abundantly atmospheric, full of details of farm work and country life so raw you can smell the dust in the dry summer air and feel the chill in an autumn evening." -- Bill Gosden, New Zealand Film Festival.
