Marleen Gorris' rich adaptation of Virginia Woolf's classic features a towering performance from Vanessa Redgrave as the eponymous heroine, the financially secure wife of an MP who reflects on what might have been had she chosen passion over practicality in her youth... Set against the splendour of rural England in 1923, Gorris' film is a lavish and moving work.
