Orlando
Orlando is that rare cinematic gem - a lavish and sumptuous spectacle that also operates with an intelligent agenda. Based on Virginia Woolf's novel, Sally Potter's film weaves a tale of changing sexual identities against the vast backdrop of the last four hundred years of western history. Orlando (Tilda Swinton) begins as a young nobleman at the court of Elizabeth I, but then changes sex in the midst of a central Asian war. As a woman, she returns to the salons of the 18th century London, finally emerging into the present. With Lothair Bluteau, and Quentin Crisp.
