John Madden's hit combines elements of Upstairs, Downstairs, The Madness of King George and The Remains of the Day in an opulent and authentic period piece about the special friendship between Queen Victoria (the great Judi Dench) and her Scottish servant John Brown (comedian Billy Connolly, surprisingly excellent). A wonderfully acted and sumptuously produced work.
