This Website

We discovered Jozsef Toth by accident, down on English Bay, his favorite balancing spot. (We are, in case you haven't checked the url, Sitegeist Media, Vancouver's premier web site production company and Sympatico's main rival west of the Kootenays.) We were drawn to his art partly by its own evocative charm and partly because of our corporate symbol: the Inukshuk.

An inukshuk is a tower or mound or pile of stones usually found in arctic parts. The arctic, like the internet, has a multitude of treasures, but also like the internet is a vast and desolate place. The inukshuk serves as both a marker for important sites and as a signpost on a trail through the wasteland.

We got into this business because we enjoy working in the medium, and because we want to temper it with our own personal values. One of which is that the medium has room for everyone: big or small, runofthemill or eccentric. While big and runofthemill pay the bills, small and eccentric are always the most fun. So we decided to give Jozsef a bit of turf in cyberspace, right up there with a site as visually pleasing and certainly as if not more interesting than the big, runofthemill sites. Like youknowwho, who it should be added, never offered Jozsef any such.
